Phyto detox

Focus on this way of boosting your metabolism every week, with Maxime Mességué, Dietitian-Nutritionist.

The "1 in 7" or phyto detox method: what is it?

starting from the observation that for a long time we have put forward the idea that in order to lose weight you have to restrict yourself, and that the only way to lose weight was to opt for diets that rhyme with restrictions, deprivation, etc. However, as Maxime Mességué, Dietitian-Nutritionist reminds us, "overweight and obesity are still increasing today!"

The idea of this method would therefore be to stop with the daily restrictions, which lead to frustration and therefore weight gain in the long term, and to opt for one day per week of detox, associated the rest of the time with a balanced diet, but not restrictive.

As the specialist reminds us, the "1 in 7" method is not a slimming diet and does not aim at rapid weight loss, but rather a lasting and healthy slimming of the figure.

By taking care only one day a week, we can therefore expect a slow and gradual weight loss, but which works in the long term.

The advantage of the "1 in 7" method is that it can be addressed to every one, since it aims to take care of its metabolism, its health, its silhouette, and allows to find a balance, without risking the yoyo effect.

The only contraindications to know concern:

  • People with diabetes who are dependent on insulin
  • People who suffer from eating disorders (bulimia, anorexia, etc.)

The main principles of the method to lose weight

Try to have as simple a diet as possible one day in the week. That day :

  • Consume raw and unprocessed products
  • Avoid carbohydrates
  • Remove sugar (except that of fresh fruits)
  • Remove salt
  • Avoid starchy foods
  • Consume lean meat or fresh fish or seafood (but unsalted and of good quality)
  • Opt for legumes when you are vegetarian or vegan
  • Limit fat to two teaspoons (choose an oil rich in omega 3 such as olive oil, walnut oil, or good quality camelina oil, to add for seasoning, but not for cooking food)
  • Have some oilseeds for breakfast
  • Eliminate dairy products (or opt for soy products)
  • Ban salty sparkling waters
  • Ban alcohol
  • Hydrate well with plain water
Note that this one-day detox must be carried out only once a week and that on the other days of the week, you must eat a balanced and varied diet, without any particular restriction.

My typical detox day: menu ideas to get started

Wake :

Half a lemon squeezed in a little lukewarm water, to drink on an empty stomach, 20 minutes before breakfast
Breakfast :

  • Organic green tea or light coffee
  • 30 to 40 grams of organic wholemeal bread or 30 grams of oilseeds or 20 grams of chia seeds swollen in a little vegetable milk
  • A fresh seasonal fruit

For the late morning snack:

If you tend to have a snack around 11 a.m., skip your fruit at the end of breakfast and save it to enjoy at that time.

At lunch :

  • 100 to 150 grams of meat or 200 to 250 grams of fish or 2 eggs (cooked without fat). If you do not eat meat or eggs, replace them with 50 grams of legumes (dry weight before cooking) for a vegetable protein intake.
  • 300 grams of raw or cooked vegetables (seasoned with lemon juice, herbs, spices ...)
  • A seasonal fruit

At snack :

  • If you are used to snacking, proceed as for the late morning break.

At dinner :

  • 100 to 150 grams of meat or 200 to 250 grams of fish or 2 eggs (cooked without fat). If you do not eat meat, fish, or eggs, replace them with 50 grams of legumes (dry weight before cooking) to ensure your intake of essential amino acids
  • 300 grams of raw or cooked vegetables (seasoned with lemon juice, herbs, spices ...)
  • A seasonal fruit
A good piece of advice from the dietitian: remember to hydrate yourself well throughout the day, with plain water and, if you wish, beneficial herbal teas.
